Oilman: Curitiba's Unlikely Superhero

What do you get when you take a 100ml of oil, a brightly coloured
speedo, a bicycle and a biology teacher?

The super hero of Curitiba!!!!

Year round Nelson Robelo walks and rides his bicycle through the parks
and streets of Curitiba wearing nothing but a Speedo and a lot of oil.

BRAZILIAN BBQ

There was not a leaf of lettuce or stick of celery in sight. The only thing related to plants was the polenta and beer that was brought around at regular intervals. Soon after guests started arriving the barbeque was lit. Built into the house the bbq was a chamber on the outside wall. It resembled a tiny fireplace complete with chimney.

Moving Brazilian Style

Everything must go. Pack up the kitchen sink, the stove, the cabinets
and even the taps. Nothing except the roof and the floor come standard
in a Brazilian home.
The current place is small, it resembles a bunker more then the
basement suite it is. The two fellows I have been staying with have

Snow Cave Cabaret

A man walked down the mountain in his socks. He complained that his
boots were frozen so he couldn't put them on. It had been one of those
nights.

I had woken up in a three bedroom snowcave with a guest bed that we
had dug two days before. The man had shared the single icy guest bed

Dinner with Strangers - CouchSurfing

I got the call at 6:00. "If you can make it here by 6:30 and you have made food already come. I have too many people coming for my tiny apartment. My address is ............". This girl was clearly stressed and rightfully so. She had started a new trend in Vancouver and was overwhelmed with the results.

Winterpeg

How much does 15 cm of snow cost to remove? Forty point five million
if it falls on Winnipeg and that's just the governments share of the
cost. Throw in private snow removing companies and it is considerably
more. The city alone had 350 pieces of machinery working in an
orchastrated effort to get the citying moving again.

Orca Safari

The small group went out to the sun light. The heavy red suits made us look like astronauts going to a rocket, but we were just a few tourists ready to meet orcas in their environment. This adventure had been a “to do” since the first time I visited Vancouver and this bright day seemed to be perfect to have a close encounter with these black and white giants.

Pousada Tãnara, a hidden gem in Itacaré, Bahia, Brazil

Check out the newly renovated Pousada Tãnara, right on Tiririca beach, in Itacaré, a surf town in Bahia Brazil, owned by a Belgian/Canadian & Brazilian couple.

CuBA Five Decades of Failure

It was a short trip, no thanks to Cayman Airlines changing our flight from Thursday to Friday making our already tight timeline even tighter. After sitting on the tarmac for 50mins waiting for the Cuban-Americans to transfer from their Miami - Cayman connection to our Cayman - Havana flight (the “Swamp Loophole”) the fun was just beginning.

Still with our heads in the clouds

Steve´s mumblings:   Into Sucre, hotly pursued by Jon and Alex the amiable Aussies. A super white city, crammed full of colonial/mezito architecture, grand plaza, and impressive array of churches. The Andean indigenous folk make a return, bowler hats, massive skirts... and a bit of attitude. The smell of meat on stick, and small shops packed full of ramdon stuff.
