What Is This Program About?

This program provides comprehensive training to become a Medical Administrative Assistant in clinics, medical offices, and healthcare settings. Over 21 weeks, you’ll gain essential administrative skills, learn to use industry-standard software and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, and apply your training in a real work placement.

Training Curriculum (21 Weeks)

  • Essential Skills — 3 weeks
  • Employment Skills — 2 weeks
  • Occupational Skills Training — 12 weeks
  • Work Experience — 3 weeks
  • Follow-Up & Job Search Support — 1 week

Follow-up 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Keyboarding skills; a minimum of 20 wpm​
  • Able to pass a vulnerable sector police check and receive a clean criminal record
  • Have legal status in Canada as a Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Canadian Citizen
  • Have B.C. Secondary School Graduation or equivalent
  • Meet English 12, CLB 8, or equivalent
  • Have good computer and internet navigation skills

WorkBC registration and approval are mandatory for final acceptance into the program

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong computer and keyboarding skills
  • Interest in office administration, especially in healthcare settings
  • Ability to commit to a full-time, demanding training schedule
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Good interpersonal and customer-service skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
